My name is Don Adams. I am a husband, father, and grandfather. I have been a teacher for thirty-one years with experience in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
My undergraduate degree is in special education and I have worked as a regular class teacher, resource teacher, a special class teacher, an elementary counsellor, a teacher in a diagnostic teaching program, and a school administrator.
I hold significant experience and training as a child and family therapist. For a couple of years, I worked in private practice specializing in support for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.
Beginning September 2015, I'll be teaching Kindergarten at Victoria West Elementary School in Victoria, BC, Canada. My interest lies in pushing the boundaries of traditional education and in encouraging the ability of students to engage in inquiry, self-directed learning, and reflection.
Many west coast First Nations tell stories about Raven. One of the original creators, Raven is the clever trickster. He is a transformer and the harbinger of change. It was Raven who, dissatisfied and bored with what was, brought life when he released light into the world. He coaxed the first humans into the world and brought fire to keep them warm and illuminate the darkness. It is Raven who reflects many of the qualities we find in ourselves while seeking change and pursuing the desire to make things better.
